Setting up a Fund
- You may name your fund.
- You may create any one or combination of the following funds:
- An advised fund which will consider future distributions recommended by the donor, member of the donor’s family or a group of advisors appointed by the donor
- A scholarship fund - An unrestricted fund to be used to support charitable programs selected by the Legacy Fund
- A field of interest fund to be used to support specific charitable programs selected by the donor
- A designated fund to be used to support specific public charities designated by the donor
- You may add to existing funds established in the Legacy Fund to achieve your specific charitable goals.
- You may add to the fund at any time or cause other gifts to be contributed by the fund. A Guide to Giving will help you to understand the mechanics of establishing a fund within the Legacy Fund.
The Highland Lakes Legacy Fund offers a broad spectrum of charitable giving funds – powerful philanthropic tools for individuals, families or businesses. Whether your goal is to make periodic or occasional charitable gifts, or to create a means for regular investment in community improvement and educational enrichment - we have the funds that will work for you.
Donor Advised Funds — Distributions from these funds are made through consultation and with the advice of the donor to benefit charitable organizations.
Donor Designated Funds — These funds are created to benefit specific organizations or fields of interest in perpetuity.
Non-Profit Agency Endowments — These funds are created for non-profit organizations to provide permanent structure and professional investment management.
Charitable Remainder Trusts — This type of trust will make payments to a designated beneficiary during his or her lifetime, after which the principal passes to the Fund.
Special Project Funds — A special project fund provides a conduit through which charitable contributions flow towards a specific project that will benefit our communities and the surrounding area.
Scholarship Funds — While the majority of these funds benefit graduating seniors of area high schools, scholarship funds may be established for all levels of education above high school. While the donor may define scholarship guidelines, the school counselors, financial aid offices or advisory committees to the fund select the recipients.
Legacy Community Fund — These unrestricted funds enable the Legacy Fund to meet the community’s most pressing needs by allowing the Advisory Board to determine the recipients.
Memorials and Tributes — This contribution can be made as a memorial or as a tribute to the living. The Highland Lakes Legacy Fund sends a note to the honoree or the next of kin (in the case of a memorial contribution) that acknowledges the source of the contribution. The Foundation maintains a Book of Memories that provides a permanent record of all memorial contributions received.
